Diary of a School Dog March 2025

Monday 3rd March 2025

Lots of good news today - the gate and playground duty this morning in the lovely spring sunshine.

At lunchtime, I helped Bethan write a special assembly. I say helped but it was more mooching around her feet and nibbling her delicious shoelaces.

I made a new friend in Hamish who was visiting with his mummy and daddy. He was very friendly and gave excellent strokes, just how I like them.

Don't tell anyone but I suspect I'm in the doghouse with Mrs Taylor for making myself sick by eating the gritting salt from the floor. She was wearing her 'this is not my impressed face' as she was disinfecting the playground☹

I was on my best behaviour out on the playground this morning - I sat nicely for most of the time I was on gate duty and only ate a very small amount of salt, not enough to make me queasy.

Mr Kellett is such a friendly chap isn't he? He comes to see me every morning and evening and spends a few minutes playing with me each time. Today, he took me for a stroll after school and we popped in to 3B and had a quick chat with Mrs Buchanan.

It's my rest day tomorrow so I will see you all on Thursday. Enjoy World Book Day!

I really enjoyed being in the hall throughout both sets of Parents’ Consultations – I’m not sure many people noticed me because I was snoozing on a chair between Mrs Taylor and Mrs Walker for some of the time.

One of the things that did strike me when I listened to the parents and teachers was how hard you all work, how proud your teachers and parents are and what good progress you are making.

I would love to hear people talking about me like that and so I am going to put all of my energy into my training and making good progress so I can be the best behaved School Dog ever!

I could hear a little bit of 5K’s assembly from the office this morning. It sounded brilliant and so I barked my approval from down the corridor. When I get sitting patiently sorted, I’m hoping I will be invited along to class assemblies because they sound like a lot of fun!

There were lots of new faces on playground duty this morning. The children who came to see me were so patient and remembered not to crowd round – they were a lovely crowd.

Even though I have only been working here for eight days, I am growing to love this amazing school family. Thank you for making me feel so welcome.

Monday 10th March 2025

What a lovely weekend – I hope you enjoyed the sunshine! I went for a very long walk in Dinton Pastures on Saturday and again on Sunday.

This week, I am focusing on trying my very best not to jump up when I am pleased to see someone.

If my adult says that it is the right time to come and say hello, please can you make sure that I am sitting before you stroke my back. This will really help me with my learning.

Mrs Walker brought me an amazing present this morning, my very own Pluto!

Tuesday 11th March 2025

Thank you so much for all of the feedback about my diary – I am really enjoying capturing my days especially as my breeder, Maria, is following me to see what I am getting up to. I am the first dog she has bred that has been chosen for a School Dog.

I stopped by 5B’s cloakroom this morning on my way back from the gate and met some new faces. I had a lot of strokes and was enjoying myself so much, I was reluctant to leave. I  really fancied nipping in to maths but Mrs Taylor said it might be a bit too disruptive. To be honest, I have no idea why she might think that. As if I would ever be disruptive – I take my job as School Dog VERY seriously. I was just going to slip in quietly, borrow a whiteboard and pen and join in the lesson. Once Mrs Taylor gets busy, I am going to try and sneak back into 5B.

My plan didn’t work as I wore myself out playing with the lovely new toy bought for me by Sophia (6D) and then I nodded off. I didn’t wake up until playtime by which time maths had finished.

It's my rest day tomorrow, see you Thursday.

Thursday 13th March

Oh my word, today has felt like my birthday!

Robyn (5B) gave me present of a pink blanket embroidered with my name and a new puppy toy. I had a lie on my blanket to try it out and it is so soft. Having my name on something feels very special! I also got to meet Robyn’s little sister, Lottie, who gives excellent strokes.

As if that wasn’t brilliant enough, Ellie from 5B popped down to see me at playtime with another new toy, this time a lovely rabbit that squeaks - I have had a lot of fun with that this afternoon and I think I may have driven Mrs Taylor mad whilst she was trying to work. With all of the lovely gifts I've received this week, her  office is starting to look like my very own playroom.

See you all tomorrow.

Friday 14th March

Another week down and I am loving life here at St Paul’s!

Everyone is so proud of me and how hard I am trying to sit still when people say hello and give me a stroke.

One of my favourite things is to lie in the doorway of Mrs Taylor’s office and watch everyone coming and going. It is so much better than the TV.

I haven’t met all of you yet but I think that I have made about 150 new friends this week and I am looking forward to more new faces next week.

I am signing off now because I really work up an appetite when I am working in school and after such a busy day I am starving! I hope there’s something tasty for dinner.

Have a good weekend.

Monday 17th March 2025

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Today is one of my duty days and I nailed it! I calmly lay on the playground, waiting patiently and lots of children were able to come and give me stroke. When I wasn’t lay down, I sat still and I didn't jump up once. I am so PROUD of myself and Mrs Taylor looked pretty chuffed too.

I was having some quiet time after assembly when I met the loveliest pupil. She told me all about her dog, Ralphie, and how he sneaks into her room and sometimes ‘borrows’ her teddies for a quick chew! I showed her Pluto and demonstrated my elite skills on his ears.

Some of the children from Walter Infants recognised me when I was out for my lunchtime walk and they said hello to me through the fence. I also got to meet some of the staff, including Miss Dutton. Did you know that there is a Miss Dutton at Walter and a Miss Dutton at St Paul’s!

Tuesday 18th March 2025

You will never guess what! Mrs Taylor has sent off my application to Canine Assisted Learning to see if I would be a suitable Therapy Dog. I have such a lot to learn that it is making me feel a bit nervous but then I spend some time with Katie from 3D who made me feel much calmer about things
