Wednesday 21st October

2.04pm

The children had a lovely, calm start to the day in their classrooms. Spirits were high despite the torrential rain, and there was a real buzz of excitement in the air. It seems even the weather couldn’t dampen Year 6’s enthusiasm!

By the time bags, bodies and rather a lot of luggage were safely on board, the coaches set off at 10.27am. The journey went smoothly and, with Liddington approximately an hour away, they were soon well on their way to their adventure.

The coach drivers were full of praise for our fabulous pupils, commenting on their excellent behaviour throughout the journey. Well done, Year 6! What a brilliant start, and long may it continue!

First things first: the children were put into their activity groups and found out their room numbers so they could stow away their belongings and work out who was having which bunk. After that, enjoyed a packed lunch together before heading out for the afternoon's activities, which include:

Orienteering
Map in hand, adventure awaits! Teams will navigate the site in search of hidden control points, putting their brains and teamwork to the test. It’s a race against time and a chance to show off those navigation skills to see who will be the first to crack the course?

Sensory Trail

Working in teams, the children explored the woodland using their senses to tackle a variety of exciting challenges. There was plenty of laughter, teamwork and determination as they stepped outside their comfort zones, built trust in one another and discovered the natural world in a whole new way.

Giant Swing

Harnessed into a two-seater swing which the rest of the group hauling it up to a height of up to 10m. It is up to each pair of passengers as to how high they want to go before pulling the release cord and hurtling down towards the ground, before swinging up again towards the sky. This activity is described as breath-taking!

Vertical Challenge

The Vertical Challenge is a thrilling high ropes activity that combines climbing, balance and agility high above the ground. Participants navigate a series of elevated obstacles, ropes and platforms, testing their coordination and determination as they make their way through the course. With each section becoming more demanding, the challenge offers an exciting opportunity to reach new heights and experience the excitement of adventure in a safe and supportive environment.

A slight change to tomorrow evening’s plans: the weather forecast isn’t looking particularly promising, so the campfire and silent disco have swapped places! The children will enjoy the camp fire tonight, while tomorrow evening will be spent on the dance floor, keeping everyone warm, dry and comfortable whatever the weather decides to do.

New photos - just in.
The children had an amazing time this afternoon, with many of them achieving things they never thought possible.
There was plenty of adventure and teamwork to be had, and by the time they had finished, they had worked up a healthy appetite and were more than ready for dinner!

Tonight's menu included:
  • Homemade Beef Lasagne
  • Hunter's Chicken
  • Shepherdless Pie (vegetarian option)
  • Baby Potatoes
  • Baby Carrots
  • Green Beans
  • Fresh Salad Bar
  • Fresh Fruit
  • Jam Doughnuts

We are extremely proud of the children's efforts. The day has gone exceptionally well, with only one casualty so far: a very wobbly tooth finally decided it had clung on long enough and made its grand exit this afternoon! Not to worry though, we've already been in touch with the Tooth Fairy and asked her to leave the payment safely in my office, ready for collection when the children return. With so many bedrooms spread across the centre, we felt it was only fair to spare her from wandering the corridors all night with a tiny sat-nav, searching for the correct pillow!

The final activity of the day was the campfire, a much-loved PGL tradition and the perfect way to round of today's adventure. Gathered together around the fire, the children enjoyed an evening filled with laughter, songs and games - it's easy to see why the campfire is always one of the highlights of the residential

After the camp fire, our birthday boy had the opportunity to celebrate in style, generously sharing his delicious cakes with his friends. A rousing rendition of Happy Birthday echoed around the camp before Team St Paul's headed back to their rooms to don PJs and settle down for the night. As I type, teeth are being brushed and showers taken - yes, really!

More News tomorrow - sleep well.
